Last Thoughts on Holocaust Remembrance Day

This picture haunts my dreams.

It is a picture of Jews being rounded up in the Warsaw ghetto (Poland) just before they were shipped off to the Treblinka death camp.

I see my children's faces in that little boy.

When CM1 was studying the history of immigration in 5th grade they had to dress up as immigrants. They were pretending to go through Ellis Island. Someone put a poorboyhat on his head. It looked just like the hat that boy in the picture was wearing. When I showed up at school, saw what he was wearing, I removed that hat from his head as soon as I could.

To this day, even though they are grown men, I will not bring one of those hats into my house...

Meanwhile apparently it has become an acceptable part of the political discourse in the United States to accuse Jews who do not agree with the Obama administration's Middle East Policy as disloyal to their country.... read HERE.....

Some nights pictures of little Jewish boys in Poland haunt my dreams.

There is a picture book called something like "A Camera in My Pocket." This reminds me of that. Somehow someone managed to keep a camera hidden in their pocket in one of the ghettos! Very haunting black and white book.

WELCOME

Welcome to my blog. I am the mother of two children with asperger's syndrome. The oldest in fact was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at the age of five. He is now a college graduate and will be starting a masters program Fall 2013. His younger brother is a college junior. It has been a long road and not so easy all the time. But I never gave up and I never will until my boys have the future of their choosing.

I will be writing updates on situations answering the age-old questions of "who, what, where, when and how" they had been handled. I may even tell a funny or two. I am not a professional. I am a parent writing about my adventures in raising two very different boys on the autism spectrum. I sincerely hope that something I pen here helps those who visit. If you have a question don't be afraid to ask.

But if you are looking for quick answers, a magic pill or someone to tell you its all the other guys responsibility, you will not find that here. You will not find woe-is-me parenting either. What you will find here is a shoulder, a support system and a look at the practical realities of raising a child on the autism spectrum and integrating them into the real world.

Remember not to project what will be, take each day, each moment, in its own time; then one day you will look back and see just how far your child has come.

LEGEND

For those who are new to this blog below are the acronyms and who they belong to:

WoS aka hubby: Wise Old Sage. Name given to the husband by the boys..as opposed to me whom they just refer to as a pain in the tuchas

HSB aka highschoolboy: my younger son who is now a high school graduate.

CM1 aka collegeman: this is a moniker for my oldest who is a college graduate. We are calling him collegeman1 because his brother is collegeman2. However, CM1 is starting a masters graduate program this fall and will now, from 5/18/13, be referred to as Mr. GS or Mr. Graduate Student.

CM2 aka HSB: formerly highschoolboy who is now a college junior. He is known as collegeman2. But don't tell him, he thinks nicknaming him collegeman is idiotic, sophomoric and just plain dumb. So we will keep this just between us.
