Stayin' Alive

Yeah its nostalgia week for me. Saturday Night Fever was another movie of my adolescence. It introduced us to a rather handsome youngman named John Travolta.

OK if you watched a little comedy show called Welcome Back Kotter, you had been aware of JT for some time before the movie came out in theaters.

Considering right now, we are working our way through take home finals, final papers and studying for in-class exams, I can't wait until the end of the week. As usual CM1 is over-thinking everything....CM2 isn't thinking through anything enough and I am caught in the middle trying to keep everyone on track. Here's hoping we make it to Wednesday....

Yeah I know I am being dramatic. We will be fine. Not sure in what shape (grades ahem) we will be in, but we will be fine.

Hi Elise. Stayin Alive would make a great themesong for raising a child with Asperger's. But I once read that the Bee Gee's were going to call that song Buried Alive, which would have also been fitting.

WELCOME

Welcome to my blog. I am the mother of two children with asperger's syndrome. The oldest in fact was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at the age of five. He is now a college graduate and will be starting a masters program Fall 2013. His younger brother is a college junior. It has been a long road and not so easy all the time. But I never gave up and I never will until my boys have the future of their choosing.

I will be writing updates on situations answering the age-old questions of "who, what, where, when and how" they had been handled. I may even tell a funny or two. I am not a professional. I am a parent writing about my adventures in raising two very different boys on the autism spectrum. I sincerely hope that something I pen here helps those who visit. If you have a question don't be afraid to ask.

But if you are looking for quick answers, a magic pill or someone to tell you its all the other guys responsibility, you will not find that here. You will not find woe-is-me parenting either. What you will find here is a shoulder, a support system and a look at the practical realities of raising a child on the autism spectrum and integrating them into the real world.

Remember not to project what will be, take each day, each moment, in its own time; then one day you will look back and see just how far your child has come.

LEGEND

For those who are new to this blog below are the acronyms and who they belong to:

WoS aka hubby: Wise Old Sage. Name given to the husband by the boys..as opposed to me whom they just refer to as a pain in the tuchas

HSB aka highschoolboy: my younger son who is now a high school graduate.

CM1 aka collegeman: this is a moniker for my oldest who is a college graduate. We are calling him collegeman1 because his brother is collegeman2. However, CM1 is starting a masters graduate program this fall and will now, from 5/18/13, be referred to as Mr. GS or Mr. Graduate Student.

CM2 aka HSB: formerly highschoolboy who is now a college junior. He is known as collegeman2. But don't tell him, he thinks nicknaming him collegeman is idiotic, sophomoric and just plain dumb. So we will keep this just between us.
